Through targeted initiatives, we provide essential support to marginalized communities in the Dominican Republic, focusing on incarcerated women and vulnerable children who need our solidarity most.
Supporting vulnerable children and teenage mothers with essential supplies and joyful activities
Collect essential items and school supplies, and host a day of activities to bring joy and hope to the children of Red Misericordia, a center in Santiago that cares for over 160 vulnerable children exposed to neglect, abuse, and abandonment.
Red Misericordia is a nonprofit organization in Santiago, Dominican Republic, dedicated to protecting and uplifting children and adolescents who have been exposed to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. The center currently cares for around 150 children ranging in age from newborns to 17 years old, while also providing specialized support for teenage mothers and their babies.
Children at Red Misericordia receive shelter, education, health care, and spiritual guidance, creating an environment where they can heal, grow, and envision a brighter future. To fulfill its mission, Red Misericordia works closely with national institutions such as CONANI (the National Council for Children and Adolescents) and the Attorney General's Office, ensuring that every child receives both daily care and the legal protection they deserve.
Vida Mana chose Red Misericordia as our next ally because of our shared commitment to solidarity and empowerment. Vida Mana will collect essential items, toys, and school supplies and host a day of activities designed to bring joy, comfort, and meaningful connection to the children and young mothers they serve.
March 2025 - A successful initiative providing dignity and essential care to incarcerated women
In March 2025, Vida Mana partnered with the Rafey Women's Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Santiago, Dominican Republic, donating hygiene kits to all the women in the facility and multiple boxes of sanitary pads, while also having the opportunity to bond with them.
During our collaboration with the Rafey Women's Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Vida Mana ensured that every one of the 160 incarcerated women received an individualized hygiene kit. These kits contained over 1,375 essential items including toothpaste, deodorant, body lotion, soap, and hair accessories, basic necessities that are often overlooked yet vital for dignity and wellbeing.
In addition to the kits, we provided the facility with 37 packs of sanitary pads and pantyliners, amounting to 1,844 individual pieces to help meet ongoing needs. Beyond the material support, this initiative gave us the opportunity to talk with the women, listen to their stories, and learn from their lived experiences, creating a space of empathy and solidarity.
Through this effort, Vida Mana sought not only to provide resources but to affirm the humanity of these women and remind them that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.
